How Much Does Turf Laying Cost in 2026?
If you're thinking about a new lawn, the first question is usually "how much will it cost?" Here's an honest breakdown of what you can expect to pay in 2026, based on the jobs we do across Surrey, Sussex and the South East.
Turf only: supply prices per m²
If you're laying it yourself, the turf itself typically costs:
Budget turf: around £2 to £3 per m²
Mid-range turf: around £5 per m²
Premium turf: around £6.99 per m²
Artificial grass, for comparison: £9 to £22 per m²
Delivery, topsoil and tool hire are usually extra.
Supplied and laid: what we charge
Our supplied and laid price starts from £23 per m². The rate per m² comes down on larger lawns, to around £18 per m² at 100m², and there's a local minimum charge of £350. That covers removing the old lawn, preparing and levelling the ground, and supplying and laying quality turf.
As a rough guide:
A small lawn of 15m²: the £350 minimum
A typical 50m² garden lawn: around £1,150
A large 100m² lawn: around £1,800

What affects the price
Size: bigger lawns cost less per m².
Ground condition: heavy weeds, roots, stumps or rubble take longer to clear.
Levelling and topsoil: slopes and hollows may need extra soil.
Access: if everything has to go through the house, it takes more time and protection.
Waste removal: skips or grab lorries for old turf and soil are quoted separately.
Is it worth paying a professional?
Laying turf looks simple, but most problems with new lawns, like sinking joints, yellow patches and bumpy ground, come down to preparation. A professional job means a level, firm base, tight joints, and a lawn that lasts. It also saves you a weekend or two of heavy lifting.
