New Turf Aftercare Guide
Your new lawn needs a little care in the first few weeks while the roots grow down into the soil. Follow these simple steps and it will establish quickly and stay looking great.
Watering
How much to water depends on the weather. A good, solid all-over soak for about an hour a day is a great starting point. Water more in hot, dry or windy weather, and ease off after heavy rain. The aim is to keep the soil under the turf moist, never letting the turf dry out and shrink.
Keep off the lawn
Stay off your new turf as much as possible for the first few weeks. Walking on it can compress the soil, disturb the new roots and leave dips and uneven areas.
The first cut
Make your first cut once the grass reaches about 6 inches tall. Only ever cut one third of the blade at a time — cutting too short too soon stresses the new lawn.
Feeding
Feed your lawn with liquid seaweed a few times a year to keep it healthy, green and strong.
How long until it roots?
New turf typically takes 3–6 weeks to root firmly, depending on the time of year and the weather. We give tailored aftercare advice based on the season when your lawn is laid.
