Turf Laying in Caterham: How We Made a Hill Less Dramatic

Updated: Apr 16, 2023

As landscapers, we love a good challenge. So, when we got the call to lay turf on a 160m2 plot in Caterham, we jumped at the opportunity. The plot was located on a steep hill, covered in weeds and large stones. To make matters worse, access to the garden was up 2 flights of narrow stairs. But, with some careful planning and hard work, we were able to transform the area into a lush, green oasis.

Our first order of business was to rotovate the ground and remove all of the weeds and stones. We had already made the decision to move the soil prior to starting the job, so we carefully redistributed the soil to create a more gradual slope that would be easier to maintain and provide better drainage for the turf.

In addition to laying the turf, we also built a small sleeper retaining wall to further stabilize the area. The retaining wall was constructed using sleepers, which are large, sturdy wooden beams that are often used in landscaping projects. We carefully measured and cut each sleeper to size, then dug a trench to create a solid foundation for the wall.

Despite the challenging access to the garden, we were able to bring in the necessary materials and equipment to get the job done right. And, in the end, it was worth it.

The Caterham turf laying project was a success. We were able to create a beautiful, inviting space that the homeowners could enjoy for years to come. And, we had a lot of fun doing it too!

As we stood back to admire our work, we couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and satisfaction. We had transformed a once neglected and unusable area into a stunning, functional space. And, of course, we couldn't resist running our fingers through the soft, green blades of grass.

In conclusion, the Caterham turf laying project was a great example of how careful planning, hard work, and a little bit of creativity can turn even the most challenging landscape into something beautiful. We're grateful for the opportunity to work on this project and look forward to taking on new challenges in the future.
